In 2011 Them-Us.com and Lanier Interactive partnered to create the forum Men Against Violence. This would be a forum started by men, but available to all that speaks out against and educates the public on domestic violence topics. To bring it all together we created a conference and expo. This would give us the ability to present speakers from multiple disciplines that would be able to educate and discuss this topic with an audience.

In the last year we were shocked to read that 1 in 10 girls and 1 in 11 boys admits to having experienced physical violence in a dating relationship in the past year. 1 in 3 teens say they know someone who has been physically assaulted or otherwise hurt by a dating partner. The fact that 1 in 5 teens aged 13 to 14 who have been in a relationship say that they know someone who has been hit in anger by a boyfriend or girlfriend is alarming. These statistics made us realize that this year one of our most important objectives would be bringing to light the rise in teen related domestic violence that is taking root in our communities.

We need teens and adults to understand and take ownership of what is happening in their lives. This conference is a start at getting all that are affected by this secretive community killer the right tools and knowledge to make informed decisions regarding how to move forward and ultimately beyond the aftermath of domestic violence.

The conference will have speakers from The Spring in Tampa Bay and The Crisis Center as well as other organizations. Other speakers will include relationship experts, mental health professionals and law enforcement representatives. Topics will include but are not limited to:

the roots of violence
teen violence
the effects on the family
dynamics of anger
how to get help (for both the victim and abuser)
forgiveness, and much more

Make a donation and impact the community as little as $3 works. Its not the amount that matters is about getting involved and actively making a difference in the community that surrounds you. The only way we are going to stop the problems plaguing our communities is to actively and aggressively attack them together as one body.
